Stir the Pots

I can't quite remember how, but I have just come across Stir the Pots, a blog and podcast.  There are a number of interviews with an impressive roll-call of chefs and bakers including Jacques Pepin and Peter Gordon.

I get the impression the site is really targeted at professionals in the food industry, especially bakers.  Don't let that put you off, it is worthwhile.  However, I hope they start podcasting a bit more frequently.

The thing I have enjoyed most has been that Jeremy Shapiro, the interviewer, knows his stuff and gets the interviewees engaged and chatting intimately on their subject.

Given that Dan Lepard appears to be one of my men of the moment, I thought it fitting to give you the chance to listen to the Stir the Pots interview with him here. Enjoy.

New book by Giorgio Locatelli

I am a big fan of Giorgio Locatelli, I am also a big fan of Dan Lepard.  I was therefore delighted to find out that Giorgio is soon bringing out Made in Italy, a cookbook/biography.  Dan is the man behind the camera.

I heard about Dan's involvement in the book following a post he made on the food forum Opinionated About (registration required).  He gave us a sneak peek at a few of the 600 plus pages and he's very kindly allowed me to repost the link here.   I understand from Dan's post on OA, that there will be articles on ingredients, photo essays, a biography of Giorgio and obviously recipes.

The book should be available some time in September.  Amazon are already touting it.

Filthy dirty farmers' markets

Is it heresy to criticise farmers' markets?  Graham Holliday of Noodlepie puts a persuasive argument why they are not all they're cracked-up to be.

Maybe the disconnect between concept and reality explains why Spitalfields market is striving for a more basic structure.

A chilly view

I often have a yearning to take a peek inside other people's fridges but they don't always react well to my snooping.

Thanks to Panorama Frigo, I have the opportunity to do it from the comfort of my desk without anyone taking offence.
