New branches of Leon

Good news for all you Leonphytes out there.  They've just opened a new restaurant on Brompton Road and are set to open a branch in Spitalfields next month.  The Spitalfields site is next door to Canteen, a restaurant I love dearly, have been to on numerous occasions and only now do I realise that I've never written up any of my visits.  Suffice to say it is very good food.  It fits into that so called 'new-wave' of English cooking, where food is cooked well and simply.  The fish and chips are great, as are the pies, as is the leek vinaigrette.  This is very much the sort of place that does what it says on the tin and does it exceptionally well.  The only unfortunate aspect of this is that somewhere that cooks exceptional ingredients at a high quality is considered a rarity.  A bit like a decent fast-food restaurant, a hole that the burgeoning Leon group neatly fills.

Leon's arrival in Spitalfields only serves to further boost the area's food credentials, what with the Sunday market, St John Bread & Wine, Montezuma's, the UK's only O&Co and the inestimable deli, A Gold.
