Book of Rai
New food forums are sprouting up ten a penny at the moment - thanks largely to eGullet. However, I want everyone to go and take a look at a new one, Book of Rai. Like so many others, it has been setup because of even more people being disenchanted with eGullet. It is all about food itself, with a special focus on foods from around the world and how they're cooked.
What is particularly exciting about BoR (not the best acronym) is that I'm a moderator on the Europe and Calendar/Events fora. I'm still trying to understand what that means, apart obviously from POWER. Anyway, I recommend taking a look.
Don't get me wrong, I'll still be regularly posting and reading the likes of OA and Mouthfuls, maybe even Mongomania, but a bit of competition for all the others is no bad thing.

Do you mean that food forums are popping up because of the diaspora from eGullet? (People getting banned for using the PM system at eG to tell people about MouthfulsFood.com, for example?) Or the mass exodus protesting their stifling social calendar policies, where passing the hat is mandatory in their Brave New World? Or that it's just not living up to its original mission statement, by squashing critics and free spirits?
Have you seen this?

"Free Speech Zone," my butt! I think you must have seen it, though. Perhaps in my tagline at Mongomania.
An eG member e-mailed me your brave post on the policies thread. Yes, things have changed. For the worse.

Yes, to all your questions. There seems to be a mass exodus going on, for all sorts of reasons, mostly to do with the governance of the site, which is shocking.
As for the link, yes I saw it on Mongomania and, I have to admit, borrowed it. I sent it to a similarly disgruntled eGer who thought it was v amusing. It was from there that I lifted the quote in the post you refer to above.
